The Rotary Club of Dubuque is very interested in all levels of education in the community. Each year, the club awards scholarships to deserving High School Seniors who are planning to pursue higher education at an acredited College or University. These scholarships are available at all High Schools in Dubuque and at East Dubuque. During the year, Rotarians contribute to a scholarship fund by means of weekly raffles and the "Fun and Frolic" weekly fines. Other resources that enhance the fund include individual gifts, business donations and special donations. High School students desiring information about scholarships should contact the Guidance Office at their school and the Financial Aids Office at the College or University they plan to attend. The Rotary Club of Dubuque Scholarships at each High School are selected and awarded by the responsible school officials. The recipient selected will be notified that they are to receive the Rotary Scholarship and the date this award will be made - usually at an awards ceremony in the spring prior to graduation. A representative from the Rotary Club of Dubuque will be present at this program to acknowledge the recipient and make an official presentation. Technically, the actual financial award will be sent directly to the Financial Aids Office where the recipient plans to attend and the amount of the Rotary award will be credited to the students account. Area residents who wish to contribute to the Rotary Club of Dubuque Scholarship fund may call the Rotary Chairperson John Darrah Donations can be sent directly to: Penny Roeder, Treasurer Contributions will be acknowledged by the Rotary Club of Dubuque Foundation which means that the contributions are tax deductible. Generally, all fundraising activities carried out by the Rotary Club of Dubuque have the specific purpose of assisting and improving our community. Special emphasis for rotary activities is placed on service to our fellow citizens and primarily assisting those in need of support. |
