Interact Club

Interact's name is a combination of the words international and action. Interact's global youth network is dedicated to community and international service.

Interact is a service club for high school age youth. First established in 1962 in Melbourne, FL, its primary focus is engaging youth and empowering them to serve locally and internationally with the help of their Rotary club sponsors. Clubs benefit from sponsorship by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance.

Wahlert Catholic High School established Dubuque's first Interact Club in November, 2010 and received its charter in early 2011. The club elects officers and board members each year. Meetings are conducted semi-monthly before school or during free hour.

The club's main activity is planning and implementing the annual dance marathon in support of the Children's Miracle Network. In addition, members serve at the Dubuque Rescue Mission and coordinate monthly bingo games at a local retirement center. Wahlert's Interact Club has become the internal clearinghouse for community service hours – a graduation requirement for students.

Dubuque Rotary's Interact co-coordinators are Patricia Kemner, Tanya Bottomley, and Scott Schneider.
