Youth Exchange
Rotary Youth Exchange builds peace one young person at a time.

Students learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens. Rotary Clubs in more than 100 countries sponsor exchanges for students who are 14 to 19 years old on or before September 1.

What are the benefits?

Exchange students unlock their true potential to:

  • Develop lifelong leadership skills
  • Learn a new language and cultures
  • Build lasting friendships with young people from around the world
  • Become a global citizen
How long do exchanges last?

The Rotary Club of Dubuque sponsors long-term exchanges that last a full academic year. Students attend local schools in their host country and live with multiple host families.

What are the costs?
Rotary Club provides funding for room and board and any school fees. Students are usually responsible for:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Travel insurance
  • International Health Insurance
  • Travel documents (such as passports and visas)
  • International Program Expenses
  • Spending money and any additional travel or tours

How to apply:

The Rotary Club of Dubuque seeks exchange student applicants in summer/fall one year before the exchange. One area high school student will be selected by the Dubuque Rotary Club to study abroad in a foreign high school. Applications can be obtained online at www.scrye.org and are due to the Dubuque Rotary Club no later than November 10th each year. Club interviews are held in November and District interviews are held in December.

How to host an exchange student?
Hosting an exchange student can be incredibly rewarding for your family, bringing an international experience directly into your home. Host families provide room and board and share their lives with exchange students, involving them in family, community, and cultural activities. All host families are screened and trained.
